‘Sports is a metaphor for overcoming obstacles and achieving against great odds.’
On 17th February, 2018, Ridge Valley School, Gurugram celebrated its eagerly awaited Annual Sports Day. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Dhruv Singh, the Guest of Honour, a former Ranji Trophy player and an accomplished cricket coach certified by ICCA, ECB and BCCI. The event commenced with the March Past, which was a magnificent display of discipline, co-ordination and impeccable synchronization of the 4 school houses’ squads. Thereafter, the outstanding players who had represented the school in various sporting events at the National and State level lit the torch and carried the flame around the school giving out the message of enlightenment, harmony and the endeavour for perfection. These students were felicitated by the School Manager and Acting Principal, Ms. Meenakshi Singh. The students then took an oath promising to participate in the events in the highest traditions of Sports, displaying sportsmanship and fair play. Mr. Dhruv Singh released the balloons and declared the meet open. The welcome dance by students of Grades 6 to 8 enthused the crowd as they swirled to the notes of ‘Jai Ho’. Students of Grades 3 to 5 also motivated the participants by their spirited rendition of the song ‘Waving Flag’. Zealous parents had gathered in large numbers, constantly applauding the participants during the track and field events. The most fascinating part of the meet were the splendid field displays, involving mass student participation. The displays included the Gymnastics showcase and Taekwondo Drill presented by the students of Grades 3 to 9. Students demonstrated tactics for self-defense through the art of Taekwondo which is the need of the hour.
The track and field events comprised of 100 & 200 meters races, 4 X 100 meters relay, long jump, shot put, medicine throw ball, parents’ 100 meter dash, teachers vs. parents’ tug of war and support staff races. At the end of the meet, students departed with proud smiles on their faces as Blue House lifted the Best House trophy. Varun Maurya and Anushka Nagarkoti were adjudged the Best Athletes. It was a day filled with camaraderie in the face of competition, enthusiasm even in the wake of loss and memories that would be cherished forever. School Manager and Acting Principal, Ms. Meenakshi Singh thanked all the teachers and support staff for their cooperation and support. She gave a big shout out to each of the students for being winners in their own right and for putting in their heart and soul into the events. She expressed her wish to see the students putting in the same spirit into all their work and to surge through life with the same zeal, hitching their wagon skywards!
