World of stories
“Come into my parlour, said the spider to the fly”. The Ridgean flies were unstoppable.
The inundation of electronic media that students are constantly exposed to poses an ever-increasing challenge. While young people today may read text files or brief messages more than they did a few years ago, the amount of sustained reading, students engage in is decreasing.
To help develop positive reading habits, Ridge Valley School hosted an author’s visit, for grades 3 to 5 on the 21st of July 2016. The Principal, Mrs. Guneet Ohri, herself a voracious reader, welcomed the author and anointed her with a small token of affection, created by our very own Ridgeans ‘young hands’.
The eminent Mrs. Monisha Gupta, an alumnus of the prestigious Sacred Heart Convent and Loyola School, conducted the workshop on story telling. At present she is working as a consultant with the Times of India, Scholastic India and the British Council.Ms. Gupta’s writing accomplishments and flexibility in presentations made her the best choice for this event. She has also authored several phonetic novels for beginners.
She deftly took our young readers into the magical world of her stories. Enthralled and enraptured, the venue was abuzz with the characters coming alive!! Towards, the end she expressed her delight at having interacted with such a remarkably bright lot and encouraged them to keep their curiosity going.
”I have never come across such a vibrant lot, in my years of conducting workshops across the country” was her parting statement.
