Inter-house Debate competition
Debate is an activity that gives students creative room to express what they feel. The length and breadth of knowledge that they gain through this is simply unparalleled. The Inter house Debate competition for students of Ridge Valley School (Grades III onwards) was held on 20th May, 2015 on the topic ‘Is Ambition the only stepping stone to success?
The competition was adjudged by Mrs Kamini Narsimhan, Universal Learn Today member, Mrs. Guneet Ohri, the Principal and Mrs. Shalna Chand, the head of the junior wing.
It was very evident that the teams were well prepared and they used various skills like overstatement, definition, irony etc. to convince the audience. The participants, armed with statistics and data made their arguments more emphatic with their righteous facial expressions, body movement and gestures. All the four teams exhibited great oratorical skills. The Green house emerged as the winner. The best Speaker award was given to Syona Jain of Grade VI.
The highlight of the debate was the rebuttal round. The Ridgeans moved away from the conventional style of judges asking each speaker a question and marking them for their answers. Here, the audience asked a question on the matter presented by a contestant. The debate competition came alive as a volley of questions was answered, inviting more questions which got further answers from both sides. Each participant rose to the occasion to defend their argument.
